Why Is a Death Certificate So Important?

Data is the foundation of public health. And that starts with the basics: information about births and deaths.

Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Data for Health Initiative is working with countries around the world to build reliable registries of births and deaths. In Rwanda, efforts to expand their data-gathering capacity enabled public health officials to better identify and track leading causes of death nationwide — and then take action to save lives.
